Sovereign Housing Group (SHG) is investing £48m in a new development in Swindon which will see 400 new homes built, it has been reported.
The investment will be split between three areas of housing in Swindon. £33m will be spent at Wichelstowe, delivering 230 affordable homes. A further £9m will see 59 new homes at Priory Walk and £5.6m will be put towards new properties at affordable rents in Dorcan and North Swindon.
The projects should take some pressure off the council’s housing register which has a waiting list of over 7,600.
SHG development director Phil Stephens said: “With more than 200 repossessions in Swindon last quarter, the pressure on housing waiting lists is steadily increasing.
“These new homes will help to alleviate this added pressure by providing much needed homes for those on Swindon’s housing register.”
