Swindon hoteliers had another steady month in June reporting increases in average room rate and rooms yield according to the latest set of figures from PKF Hotel Consultancy Services.
Room rate was the main driver, rising from £60.60 to £63.61 – an increase of 5.0 per cent between 2007 and 2008. Occupancy dipped by 1.2 per cent but the rise in room rate helped average rooms yield increase by 3.7 per cent up from £44.65 in 2007 to £46.31 in 2008.
Nick Buxton, partner at PKF’s said: “The June figures are very positive and show that the Swindon hotel sector continues to remain steady in 2008.
“There is a slight decrease in the occupancy figures for June, but the beginning of the summer holiday season goes some way towards explaining this.
“It should be noted that the decrease is very small and, as 2007 was such a strong year, slight decreases are not a major concern particularly as the average room rate and rooms yield figures are higher than the same period in 2007.
“It’s a good indication that hoteliers are managing their businesses well.”
