Foodbank collection point set up by Swindon law firm to help tackle town’s hidden hardship

Law firm Francis George Solicitor-Advocate has made its Old Town office available as a regular contribution point for the charity Swindon Foodbank.

The firm confirmed the arrangement following the success of its foodbank last Christmas and the collection of one tonne of donated food so far this year.

Swindon Foodbank helps people struggling to pay for everyday essentials, such as food.

With an estimated one person in six in Swindon living close to the edge of their finances, there are an estimated 30,500 income deprived people living in the town.

These people have no safety net when a crisis, such as sudden illness, relationship breakdown, redundancy or a large unexpected expense, hits. The result is real financial hardship and a struggle to put food on the table.

Francis George Solicitor-Advocate founder Francis George said: “We’re huge supporters of Swindon Foodbank and all it does for the town.

“Like so many towns that are prosperous on the surface, Swindon has many people who need our help. As a local business, we want to play our part in helping the less fortunate among us.”

The firm welcomes donations from tinned goods to food hampers. It has already received many donations from clients, staff and the general public, with one contribution from a passer-by including so many food items the collection box overflowed.

Donations can be left at the firm’s reception at 16 High Street.

Francis George Solicitor-Advocate specialises in litigation, pre-litigation and non-contentious work and provides pragmatic and practical legal advice on subjects such as conveyancing, commercial contracts and probate and wills to clients across the UK.
