Each week Swindon Business News gives a prominent member of the area’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin.

This week Jo Smyth, owner of PR and copywriting agency Word Worker, answers our 10 questions.

What was the LAST:

Film you watched? Batman v Superman. Going to see action films is one of the untended consequence of having an 11-year-old son. And this particular one represents 2.5 hours of my life I will NEVER get back. If you’re contemplating going, don’t do it.

Book you read? The House of Stairs by Barbara Vine. I like a good psychological thriller and I believe this particular one is currently being adapted for TV by Andrew Davies

Music you bought? Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. I was always a bit of an Oasis fan.

Concert you went to? The Smyths in Birmingham. Nothing to do with my name – they are a tribute band to The Smiths, who I loved and whose music takes me back to my uni days.

Sporting event you attended? Not a big sports fan, but I did see two Swindon Town games last season, both of which they won. Very exciting when goals are scored.

Holiday you went on? California with the family last summer. Bit of a big treat, as usually it’s a week in the UK. This year we’re going to Exmoor, which I love.

Restaurant you ate in? The Royal Oak in Tetbury. Highly recommended as they serve excellent, seasonal food and the menu changes every month.

Thing that annoyed you? My daughters leaving dirty cups and bowls in their rooms. Arrhhh!!!

Thing that made you laugh out loud? Doubtless one of the many YouTube videos that keep ending up in my Facebook news stream. Baby panda sneezing always makes me chuckle.

Piece of good advice you were given? Thumper the rabbit in Bambi says: “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothin’ at all.” Wise words from a cartoon bunny, which I try to stick to.

Jo Smyth started her career in journalism, working in regional newspapers before turning freelance and writing for women’s and parenting magazines. She “fell into” PR, as many journalists do, and set up Word Worker in 2009, offering PR and copywriting services to SMEs in the Swindon, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire area.
