Plea for old computers to boost Wiltshire dementia charity’s funds

Wiltshire firms are being urged to donate their old computers and help raise much-needed money for a county-based charity.

The call has come from Trowbridge-based Priority IT, which is refurbishing second-hand computers for sale and giving the proceeds to its chosen charity, Alzheimer’s Support.

The scheme is proving so successful that the specialist IT support firm needs more equipment to work on in aid of the charity, which provides home and other crucial support to people living with dementia in Wiltshire.

Priority IT is looking for desktops and laptops which are running Windows 7 and are about three years old. Businesses can drop off their old computers at Priority IT’s office at 56 Stallard Street, Trowbridge, BA14 8HH, during office hours.

Managing director Kieran Thomas, pictured, said: “Many of the second-hand computers that we have refurbished have now been sold, raising valuable funds for Alzheimer’s Support.

“So we are asking businesses to bring in their old equipment for us to look at rather than sending it off to landfill. If computers can be refurbished, we will remove all the data securely and reinstall the software before offering them to the public in return for a donation to the charity.”

Alzheimer’s Support chief executive officer Babs Harris added: “This is such a fantastic idea and one where everyone benefits.

“We rely on fundraising to support our work with people living with dementia and their families in Wiltshire. The funds raised will help Alzheimer’s Support keep services running including award-winning day care, support at home and activity clubs in the community.”

Priority IT provides database and application programming services to help organisations streamline day-to-day tasks and work more efficiently and securely. It was set up in 2010 by experienced IT consultant Kieran Thomas, who has worked in the industry since 1997.
