Specialist personal injury law firm Novum Law’s commitment to supporting employees who combine work with caring for a family member has been recognised in a new awards scheme.

Swindon-headquartered Novum Law received a bronze award at the Working for Carers’ inaugural gala evening to celebrate the success of Wiltshire firms.

The awards were launched last year to help businesses realise the benefits of supporting carers in the workforce.

Organised by the charity Carer Support Wiltshire – which supports thousands of unpaid carers across the county – the awards encourage companies to future-proof their policies and safeguard the sustainability of their workforce while making life easier for working carers.

Novum Law’s award recognises its awareness of carers’ issues and its good working practices to help carers fulfil their responsibilities both as a carer and an employee.

Partner Huw Ponting said: “The fact that one in nine people combine work with caring for a loved one means there are many, many employees out there struggling with the demands of their caring role and their responsibilities to their employer.

“It’s vital that all employers understand what staff members who care for loved ones are going through and provide as much help and support as possible. If they don’t, they could risk losing loyal and valued members of their team.

“We are delighted to accept a Working for Carers Award in recognition of our commitment to supporting employees juggling work with their caring role. Carer Support Wiltshire does a fantastic job raising awareness of the importance of identifying and supporting carers within the workplace and we are honoured to be part of it.”

Carer Support Wiltshire chief executive Catharine Hurford added: “Working for Carers is a programme designed to help businesses retain those people by enabling them to stay in work. It helps employers to become part of a network of responsible employers leading the way on recognition, equality, and inclusion in the workplace, helping them to create a culture of support and understanding for staff who are carers.”

Novum Law, a sister business of M4 corridor law firm Thrings, specialises in serious injury, medical negligence and asbestos illness claims. Its teams of specialist solicitors, based in nine offices across the South of England, act for people who have been involved in serious accidents or have a serious illness, however and whenever they occurred.
