Good Energy, the Chippenham-based renewable power firm, is expanding its generating capacity by commissioning a new solar site in Dorset and gaining planning permission for three more across the South West.

The new 5MW Oaklands Plantation site near Wareham will generate enough renewable electricity to supply around 1,300 homes.

It takes the number of solar farms built and operated by Good Energy to seven. Combined with its two owned and operated wind farms, the pioneering firm’s installed capacity now totals 52.5MW.

The three solar farms Good Energy is seeking planning consent for – Newton Downs in South Devon, Warren Park in Dorset and Delabole, Cornwall – would add a further 12MW of renewable electricity – enough for nearly 3,000 homes. The Delabole site is next to Good Energy’s wind farm.

Good Energy founder and chief executive Juliet Davenport OBE said: “The commissioning of this latest solar farm demonstrates our continued commitment to owning and operating a growing portfolio of renewable generation sites.

“The site will make an important contribution towards Dorset’s renewable energy targets, and will also deliver benefits to local people in the form of a community fund and bespoke biodiversity plans."

The planning permissions for Newton Downs and Delabole are subject to the firm fulfiling certain pre-planning conditions

Good Energy has more than 55,000 renewable electricity customers and 28,000 gas customers. It works with a community of 93,500 small and medium scale renewable electricity generators.
