Experienced financial planner Russ Haworth has joined Malmesbury-based Proposito as the company lays the foundations for future expansion.

Russ, pictured, will work alongside director and financial planner Huw Jones at the firm, which provides bespoke financial planning advice for a range of businesses and individuals.

It recently relocated from Malmesbury town centre to larger premises on the outskirts to give it room to expand.

Russ, like Huw, is a chartered financial planner – the two first met at their chartered financial planner graduation day in 2013.

Prior to joining Proposito, Russ worked for an accountancy firm’s financial planning arm in Taunton, where he was offered – but turned down – a directorship.

He said: “I had an excellent opportunity to stay in Taunton but I was very keen to join Proposito because I really like the way they do things here, and Huw’s ethos and mine are very similar.

“Here, we are completely focused on doing things for the client, as opposed to being transaction-led.

“Effective financial planning is not about money, it’s about looking at a client’s life goals and aspirations, and money is the mechanism that helps them achieve this. As financial planners we are here to support our clients on that journey.”

Russ’s career has always been in finance. He joined a large UK life insurance provider as a trainee and progressed to a managerial role. He then became interested in a career as an independent financial adviser (IFA), so moved to an accountancy firm’s financial planning arm, where he trained as a paraplanner, then an IFA.

In his next role, with a multinational accountancy company’s financial planning team, he was appointed to a panel by National Lottery operator Camelot to advise lottery winners.

Russ then set up a Bristol branch of a financial planning firm, before moving to the accountancy practice in Taunton.

Huw described Russ as a great addition to the Proposito team, adding: “We are having a fantastic year, with our office move and a number of new accreditations, and Russ joining as he does fits perfectly with our plans to expand, while at the same time continuing to deliver the quality and bespoke service our clients have come to expect.

“Russ is a very experienced and able financial planner and I am delighted to be working alongside him.”

In a busy year, Proposito has been accredited by The Institute of Financial Planning, gained chartered financial planner status by the Chartered Insurance Institute and achieved BS8577, the only British Standard for financial advice and planning firms.
