Packaging distributor Kite Packaging has officially opened its new Swindon branch, from which it will cover an area stretching from the Thames Valley to South Wales.

The renovated 36,000 sq ft building with two acres of office and yard space on the South Marston Industrial Estate, was officially opened by the firm’s chairman Bruce McInnes.

Acquired last October, it is double Kite’s previous base in Swindon at the IO Centre in Stratton St Margaret. The new building, previously occupied by contract packing firm TD Packaging and forklift truck manufacturer Crown Lift Trucks, has been converted into a fully-racked warehouse with the capacity to accommodate 5,000 pallets of packaging, ranging from cardboard boxes to bubble wrap and polythene bags.

Kite, which has eight branches across England, opened in Swindon in 2007 after relocating its Didcot outlet to the town. The branch, which services business customers in the Thames Valley, South West and South Wales, has grown to a £5.5m operation, doubling employee numbers and working with several major customers.

Kite Packaging Thames Valley & South Wales managing partner Neil Spears said: “This resource has been needed for some time, as we have experienced a fantastic rate of growth. Now we have the space, we hope to attract more customers and more partners to the branch.”
