B&Q, the UK’s largest home improvement and garden centre retailer, has awarded two major contracts to Chippenham-based logistics group Wincanton – extending an existing agreement to handle all its kitchen, bedroom and bathroom deliveries and managing its national distribution network.

Wincanton, which has supported B&Q’s kitchen, bedroom and bathroom operations in the Midlands for the past three years, will now be responsible for the national transport and ‘final mile’ delivery contract for the whole of mainland UK.

Under the contract, Wincanton will manage the entire delivery process including direct delivery to B&Q customers. Wincanton said this demonstrated its national home delivery network and reputation for efficient, customer focused operations.

Chief executive Adrian Colman said: “Wincanton’s specialist knowledge of the UK retail sector has equipped us to build a robust partnership with B&Q and we will work together to build a more efficient and scalable distribution network.

“Our focus on customer service and efficiency has enabled us to further add to our existing relationship, supporting B&Q as they meet the demands of a multichannel retail network.”

Meanwhile, Wincanton will take over the management of B&Q’s six distribution centres under a new five-year distribution deal. Wincanton currently manages one of the centres.

No financial details of the contracts have been disclosed.
