Immersion event aims to tackle key issues for Swindon’s high-value manufacturers

Swindon manufacturers are being urged to help shape the future of the sector in the town at a major event next month.

The high-value manufacturing immersion workshop aims to tackle two of the key factors impacting on the sector – low productivity and skills shortages.

Owners and managers from manufacturers in and around Swindon can make their thoughts known to the Local Enterprise Partnership LEP) and Swindon Borough Council at the event on July 2 to help them plan future policies.

Swindon is one of the top manufacturing towns in the South – with a higher number of jobs in the sector than the regional average. It has successfully attracted global manufacturers from a range of sectors spanning automotive to telecoms and pharmaceuticals, creating thousands of high-value jobs.

But local and national policies in areas such as skills and productivity can be determining factors in bringing in more manufacturers and encouraging those already based in the town to prosper and grow.

Firms taking part in the event, which is being staged by Business West – the organisation behind the Swindon and Wiltshire Initiative – will have a direct input to the training and educational providers in the area to have their say on what matters.

The event takes place between 9:30am and 12:30pm at Hilton Swindon Hotel, Great Western Way, SN5 8UZ.
