Swindon employment law expert Paul Archer has launched his own legal training business after more than 25 years working for law firms in the town.

Paul, pictured, who spent many years as head of employment law at Lemon & Co Solicitors, and with Withy King following the two firms’ merger a year ago, aims to provide training that deals directly and practically with the most challenging issues that arise in the employment law field.

Paul Archer Training will stage a range of in-house training courses tailored to the specific needs of large and small employers including training on managing change, dealing with poor performance, reducing sickness absence and managing complaints of bullying and stress at work.

The firm is also organising a programme of training events at Swindon’s Hilton Hotel at Junction 16 of the M4.

Paul said: “During my time at Lemon & Co and Withy King I became increasingly aware of the need for a good quality independent provider of employment law training to the large and growing community of HR professionals and people managers in Swindon and Wiltshire.

“The aim of my training is not to promote any of the many providers of legal services  – whether lawyers or HR consultancies – but to give managers the knowledge, confidence and skill to manage themselves the difficult and challenging legal issues that inevitably arise in the course of managing people.

“The training will focus on effective strategies and necessary skills as well as technical knowledge of employment law. The training events will be interactive and focus on the individual needs of the participants.”

Paul has designed and staged employment law training for human resources professionals, Citizens Advice Bureaux advisors and solicitors since 1990.

The new firm’s first event – Employment Law Essentials for HR Professionals and People Managers - will take place on September 10 from 10am to 4pm.

The second – Managing Poor Performance and Sickness Absence – is on September 22 from 9.30am to 1pm.
