Four more summer holiday routes have been added to Bristol Airport’s rapidly-lengthening destination board following the decision by travel giants Thomson and First Choice to add a third aircraft to their fleet at the airport.

The move means the holiday firms, both part of  TUI UK and Ireland, will be offering their largest flight programme and holiday schedule from Bristol Airport this summer and will also add a further three destinations next year.

This summer’s new services will be to Santorini and Thessaloniki in Greece, and Pula and Dubrovnik in Croatia. The additional aircraft will also enable the holiday firms to offer more seats on their existing services to Zante, Crete and Ibiza.

The three new summer routes for 2016 will be Catania in Italy, Hurghada in Egypt, and Sal in Cape Verde.

Thomson and First Choice director of aviation planning Karen Switzer said: “Adding more capacity in basing three aircraft demonstrates our commitment to Bristol Airport and the local area.

“Expanding access to our portfolio of destinations and hotels is a key part of our overall strategy and we hope that this move will enhance the holiday experience for our customers.”

Bristol Airport aviation director Shaun Browne added: “We are delighted to welcome the third based aircraft to Bristol Airport – and the additional jobs that will be created. The growth of Thomson and First Choice’s destinations offers passengers across the South West and wider region even more exciting destinations to choose to fly from their local airport.”

The move follows expansion at Bristol Airport this year by schedule service operators easyJet and bmi.
