Kite Packaging is to expand its Swindon operation and create jobs after acquiring a two-acre site at South Marston.

The fast-growing national firm, which employs 18 people in its current Swindon base at South Marston’s IO Centre, expects to move onto the nearby new site next February. It predicts further expansion to create around six more jobs over the next two years.

The new site is vacant after previous occupiers contract packing firm TD Packaging and forklift truck manufacturer Crown Lift Trucks moved out. Its two buildings will give Kite a total of 36,000 sq ft space – double its present amount in Swindon.

Building and refurbishment work has started and once completed will include a fully-racked warehouse with the capacity to accommodate 5,000 pallets of packaging, ranging from cardboard boxes to bubble wrap and polythene bags.

The firm, which has eight branches across England, opened in Swindon in 2007 after relocating its Didcot outlet to the town. The branch, which services business customers in the Thames Valley, South West and South Wales, has grown to a £5.5m operation, doubling employee numbers and working with several major customers.

Kite Packaging Swindon managing partner Neil Spears said: “The new acquisition is a really exciting opportunity to expand our presence in the region. With larger warehousing facilities, and room to welcome new Kite partners to our branch we will be able to service more customers on a much larger scale.”
