The issues faced by charities and their finances will be put under the microscope at a special seminar to be staged by accountants Monahans next month.

The Monahans Charity Seminar, which takes place at Chippenham Golf Club on November 13, will examine a range of relevant topics including the latest charity SORPs (Statements of Recommended Practice), trustee responsibilities, VAT and HR.

The event will be chaired by Wiltshire Air Ambulance chief executive David Philpott, who will talk about the issues faced by his charity.

Monahans, which handles many not-for-profit clients from its offices in Swindon, Bath, Chippenham, Glastonbury and Trowbridge, says it understands the issues faced by the charitable sector.

Speaking for Monahans at the seminar will be:

Managing lartner Mike Shawyer, pictured, a specialist in VAT planning and advice. His areas of expertise include property transactions including new build projects, international services provision and partial exemption issues. Mike helps Monahans’ clients navigate complex tax issues and minimise their VAT liability.

Partner Steve Fraser, who works with regulated clients such as charities, academies and pension schemes. Steve provides expert consultancy for compliance-led matters such as auditing, accounting and taxation. He also offers practical financial advice to organisations across all industry sectors.

Partner Linda Boss is a charity specialist. Her diverse portfolio includes academies, charities, family businesses and individual companies. She has served as a school governor and a trustee of a small local charity. Linda has also worked on a voluntary basis for the Prince’s Trust, interviewing applicants for funding.

Steve and Linda hold the ICACW Diploma in Charity Accounting, a qualification that acknowledges expertise and experience in this area at the highest level.

Also speaking will be Monahans HR director Peta Fry, who works across a variety of sectors including charities, small and medium-sized enterprises, international companies and the NHS. Peta has established HR strategies and teams to help businesses grow while operating within employment legislation.

The Monahans Charity Seminar will take place at the Chippenham Golf Club, Malmesbury Road, Chippenham, SN15 5LT on November 13, starting with refreshments and networking at 8.30am. The seminar will run from 9am to 10.30am.
