Each week Swindon Business News gives a prominent member of the area’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin.

This week Chris Elias, relationship director Barclays Corporate based at Barclays' Old Town, Swindon, office, answers our 10 questions.

What was the LAST:

Film you watched?

I honestly can’t remember! But I know the next one will be Pride, which has recently been released. It tells the story of the gay rights support during the miners’ strike and is set in the South Wales village of Onllywn, close to where I grew up. It will be great to see some familiar ‘sights’ on the big screen.

Book you read?

Robert Harris’ An Officer and a Spy.  Great holiday read with an interesting twist in the tail.  Also my first book on a Kindle.  Didn’t think I would like it but I’m now a convert.

Music you bought?

Futurology – Manic Street Preachers

Concert you went to?

Funnily enough, Manic Street Preachers. That’s where I bought the CD – and the t-shirt.

Sporting event you attended?

Royal Wootton Bassett RFC Colts v Sherborne.  Great game under Bassett’s new floodlights with a good win for them too.

Holiday you went on?

A last minute trip to Rhodes this summer. Rhodes is a fantastic town. Walking through the streets I kept imagining I was a knight on the way to the crusades.  Then I’d stop and have a beer and kebab.

Restaurant you ate in?

Afternoon tea in Llanerch Vinyard in the Vale of Glamorgan.  Fantastic settling and excellent quality Welsh bubbly to wash down the jam and scones.

Thing that annoyed you?

I watched someone reverse into a car in a car park and drive away without stopping. I got his number though!

Thing that made you laugh out loud?

My daughter’s first-year accommodation at Exeter University. It has a double bed, en-suite wet room, balcony, fridge, safe etc.  I thought back 35 years to having to share a bunk bed with someone I didn’t know who had smelly feet.  It was more of a jealous laugh really.

Piece of good advice you were given?

My first rule of international travel. Eat what you can when you can – you never know when the next meal will be.

Chris Elias was born and grew up in Neath, South Wales. Has lived in the Swindon area for the past 25 years and has played an active part in the business community during that time. Having played for Royal Wootton Bassett RFC for many years he is now the club chairman. He also takes an active role with both the NSPCC and Wooden Spoon charities.
