It’s a tough case for charity fundraisers taking part in gruelling South Pole race

Packaging firm GWP Group has donated 30 ultra-tough cases for a gruelling charity trek by wounded servicemen and women to the South Pole this December.

The three teams from the UK, US and the Commonwealth taking part in Walking With The Wounded’s South Pole Allied Challenge aim to travel 335km and reach their destination in just 16 days.

All team members will carry cameras, satellite phones and other personal equipment with them, but in such a harsh environment and with temperatures likely to be as low as -35°C, they will need maximum protection against the ruthless conditions.

When Cricklade-based GWP, the official distributor of Peli Storm cases, heard of the charity trek it immediately offered to donate 30 of the small, watertight and crushproof cases to the participants.

GWP group managing director David Pedley said: “When we realised that we could help the South Pole Allied Challenge, we jumped at the chance to provide the teams with cases as tough as they are.

“We hope that by making it easy for them to transport their possessions and know that they’re safe from the elements, the team can focus on this challenge and continue to raise much needed funds to support our wounded service personnel.”

Expedition manager Victoria Nicholson added:  “We are delighted to have the support of GWP Group. The cases enable the teams to safely carry much-needed and valuable electronic equipment without items succumbing to the harsh environment.”

GWP has also provided foam inserts for each of the cases, allowing each team member to customise them and protect against shock and vibration.

GWP designs and manufactures a wide range of packaging for local, regional and international companies. The group employs more than 100 staff across its four divisions – GWP Packaging, GWP Protective, GWP Conductive and GWP Coatings.

Walking With The Wounded raises funds to train the wounded, injured and sick, assisting them to find a career outside the military.
