Jephson Homes Housing Association has invested over £300,000 to give a complete refit to the bathrooms of 101 homes on a Chippenham housing estate.

The homes, across four streets in the town’s Hungerdown estate; Southmead, Westerleigh Close, Stockwood Road and Chelwood Close, have been fitted with environmentally friendly water saving toilets, which use less water when flushed.

New electric showers and extractor fans have also been fitted, along with non-slip flooring and new tiling around wet areas. The work was undertaken throughout 2010 to bring the homes up to the Government’s Decent Homes Standard and has also included some asbestos removal work.

On three occasions Jephson employed occupational therapists to assess the residents’ requirements and specially adapted bathrooms were fitted instead of the standard installation.

Programme Maintenance Inspector, from Jephson’s Bristol office, Gary Henwood said: “The overall feedback has been really good and the residents of the estate are really happy with their new bathrooms.”

Hungerdown resident Mr Alan Coleman, of Westerleigh Close, said: “The new bathroom has changed my life 100%. It means I can have a shower every day now. The workmen were really pleasant chaps and they have done a wonderful job.”
