In an indication of the industry’s strength in the region, the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) has revealed a shortlist of 73 companies for this year’s West of England PRide Awards.

The annual industry awards this year received a total of nearly 100 entries overall.  The awards will showcase the best campaigns undertaken over the last year.  In many cases PR has played a prominent role in helping organisations promote services and products or communicate difficult messages during the recession.

The 24 categories this year include ‘Best use of Media Relations’, ‘Outstanding Public Relations Consultancy/In-House Team’ and ‘Outstanding Young Communicator’.  Those shortlisted include entrants from right across the region from Gloucestershire to Cornwall.  The entries were judged by a panel of national judges.  For a full list, go to http://ciprprideawards.com.

In addition, the CIPR committee in the West of England has announced a new ‘alternative’ award for freelancers, supported by recruitment company Xchangeteam.  Named ‘PRide – On The Side’, freelancers now have the opportunity to be crowned ‘Freelancer of the Year’.  Entrants should submit a 500-word summary of their recent achievements to Tom.Bowden-Green@trimediauk.com by 9th October.

All winners will be revealed at a ceremony in Bristol on the 4th November, also sponsored by Xchangeteam.

Tom Bowden-Green, chairman of the CIPR in the West of England, said: “Despite the economic climate, the PR industry is alive and kicking in this region.  The large number of entries into PRide this year really reflects this strength.  Most importantly though, the entries demonstrate a broad variety of entrants and a wide range of communications tools, from media work to online activity.”
