No one likes to expect the worst, but it can often be for the best – especially when it comes to running a business.

Could your business survive if vital data was lost, your website was hacked into or your premises were flooded? Data security, business continuity and disaster recovery have never been so important to SMEs.

Chartered accountancy firm Morris Owen will be holding a Risk & Reality: Protecting You & Your Business seminar at which all of these topics and more will be covered. The event is due to take place on August 25 at The De Vere in Shawridge near junction 16 of the M4. Experts will address issues such as business risk, data management and security, disaster recovery and business continuity.

One of the speakers due to attend is Dr Christopher Laing from Northumbria University, a computer forensic expert who will be demonstrating how easy it is for cyber criminals to take data from company websites. There will also be advice on data protection, back-up and insurance solutions.

Ian Sumbler, IT partner at Morris Owen, said: “It’s easy to have an ‘it’ll never happen to us’ type outlook, but the reality is if something was to happen, you have to ask yourself the questions: what would be the impact on your business, how would your reputation be affected, could you continue and would you survive? Without systems and a plan in place, the answer is going to be a resounding ‘No’.”

Mr Sumbler will host the seminar, which is expected to be well attended by many of Swindon’s leading businesses.
